Oncology Registrar

Oncology

Job Purpose:

Inspire Medical is recruiting Oncology Registrars for fixed term vacancies at various locations across the country, in both HSE hospitals and private hospitals. Posts sit within the medical oncology service of a cancer centre or a hospital with a day ward, covering the oncology day ward, inpatient beds, outpatient clinics and the multidisciplinary team meetings.

Fixed term contracts run from three months to a full six-month rotation aligned to the January and July changeovers, with longer terms available in some services. Salary and rates vary depending on whether the post is private or HSE — HSE posts pay on the HSE NCHD scale, private posts at the hospital’s own rate. General Registration with the Irish Medical Council is mandatory.

Reports to:

Consultant Medical Oncologist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and manage oncology inpatients and day ward patients under consultant supervision, including the prescribing and review of systemic anti-cancer therapy in line with the service’s protocols.
  • Recognise and manage oncological emergencies — neutropenic sepsis, spinal cord compression, hypercalcaemia and tumour lysis — and escalate promptly.
  • See new and review patients in outpatient clinics and present cases at the multidisciplinary team meeting.
  • Take part in the medical on-call rota where the post carries one, and hand over safely at the start and end of every shift.
  • Keep accurate, timely clinical records and support clinical trial recruitment where the service runs trials.

Skills / Qualifications / Experience:

  • IMC General Registration is mandatory — applications without it cannot be progressed.
  • At least two years’ post-graduate experience in hospital medicine, with time in oncology, haematology or palliative medicine; MRCPI or MRCP (UK) or equivalent is an advantage.
  • Current ACLS, and confidence managing acutely unwell oncology patients with consultant support by phone.
  • Right to work in Ireland, or eligibility for a Critical Skills Employment Permit — we manage the process.
  • Garda vetting, occupational health clearance and two clinical references.

Note: this description is a guide to the role rather than an exhaustive list of duties, and responsibilities may develop over time in line with service needs. Appointment is subject to registration with the relevant regulator and to the candidate’s eligibility to work in Ireland or the United Kingdom. Inspire Medical is an equal opportunities employer.
