Medical RMO / Registrar

General Medicine

Job Purpose:

Inspire Medical is recruiting Medical Registrars and Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) for locum and fixed term positions at various locations across the country, in both HSE hospitals and private hospitals. Registrar posts sit on the medical on-call rota of an acute hospital; RMO posts provide resident medical cover for the wards of a private hospital.

Locum cover runs from single shifts to rolling blocks; fixed term contracts run from three months to a full six-month rotation aligned to the January and July changeovers. Salary and rates vary depending on whether the post is private or HSE — HSE posts pay on the HSE NCHD scale, private posts at the hospital’s own rate. General Registration with the Irish Medical Council is mandatory.

Reports to:

Consultant Physician

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clerk, assess and manage medical admissions and inpatients under consultant supervision.
  • Take part in the medical on-call rota, including the acute take and overnight resident cover.
  • Review deteriorating patients, respond to early warning score escalations and lead ward-based resuscitation until senior help arrives.
  • Order and act on investigations, prescribe safely and keep accurate, timely clinical records.
  • Supervise SHOs and interns where rostered, and give a structured handover at the start and end of every shift.

Skills / Qualifications / Experience:

  • IMC General Registration is mandatory — applications without it cannot be progressed.
  • At least two years’ post-graduate experience in hospital medicine; MRCPI or MRCP (UK) Part 1 or equivalent is an advantage for registrar posts.
  • Current ACLS, and confidence managing acute medical presentations independently overnight with consultant support by phone.
  • Right to work in Ireland, or eligibility for a Critical Skills Employment Permit — we manage the process.
  • Garda vetting, occupational health clearance and two clinical references.

Note: this description is a guide to the role rather than an exhaustive list of duties, and responsibilities may develop over time in line with service needs. Appointment is subject to registration with the relevant regulator and to the candidate’s eligibility to work in Ireland or the United Kingdom. Inspire Medical is an equal opportunities employer.
